Our projects

English courses
We can offer interested children two English courses, taught by two teachers at different language levels. The courses are interactive and take place in small groups.
A specific feature of Ethiopia is that the language of instruction in high school switches to English. For children who don't speak English well enough, this is a huge hurdle and often leads to them being unable to keep up in school. We want to spare the children that.
We can finance the program from our donation pot.
tutoring group
Since many children struggle at school, we have a tutoring group specifically for younger children. Here, we can focus on the things they haven't sufficiently understood in school.

dance group
This activity is especially aimed at our girls and is received with great enthusiasm.
Girls are often heavily involved in housework – they look after elderly relatives, care for their younger siblings and take on tasks such as cleaning and washing.
It is particularly important to us to offer them a joyful balance in which exercise plays a crucial role.
A professional dancer is available for training.

soccer training
What young man doesn't dream of becoming a famous football player? Our boys are no exception.
They have the opportunity to train three times a week. The Hahu Boys participate in matches and have a lot of fun.
We also provide the boys with football boots, balls and sportswear.
The activity is funded by donations, and a trainer takes care of the training.

Food support
Inflation in the country is massive, and essential food items are often unavailable. Depending on the amount of donations received, we can provide additional food packages.
These packages always contain teff (a grain flour – the most important food in Ethiopia, used for injera, the Ethiopian bread), oil, lentils as an important source of protein, noodles, spices, and soap. The value of one package is approximately €50.
Over the last two years, we have been able to provide such packages for all children.

Hot meals for the poorest
In our group of children there are always children who are malnourished and appear too small for their age.
Especially for this group, we offer a healthy, hot meal twice a week. This includes meat and plenty of fresh vegetables.
Ture, Asrate's sister-in-law, has agreed to cook for the children.
House renovations
Since we regularly visit the children at home and know them well, we are regularly confronted with requests for renovation work. Sometimes a wall is collapsing, a roof is leaking, or the clay floor is soaked. If we have sufficient donations, we can commission renovations. Asrate's brother Yilma, the civil engineer, is overseeing the construction work.

Scholarships for attending university
The association can award four scholarships, allowing students to focus on their studies without having to work full-time. Currently, four girls are studying: two in management and accounting, one in pharmacy, and one in mathematics.
We can also look back on several former students who have successfully completed their studies (pharmacy, medicine, teaching, etc.). During our visits, the students help out as translators and thus also serve as role models for the young children.
